Saving Face (from Allergies)

This post is part of a sponsored campaign on behalf of Latina Bloggers Connect and the makers of ZYRTEC®

The sun is shining, flowers are blooming and my face is . . . blotchy?! That’s right folks, it’s allergy season, which means we all have to deal with the dreaded ALLERGY FACE™! I’ve always considered myself lucky in that I don’t suffer allergies as badly as some people I know, but I’m not immune to the watery eyes, runny nose and flushed skin that seem to strike out of nowhere.

The biggest issue I face during allergy season is eye redness.  I wear contact lenses (when I’m not wearing my beloved glasses) and I honestly thing that they are allergen magnets - or at least they attract the LA smog like no one’s business.  So that I don’t look like I’m suffering from a bout of rabies, I like to carry eye drops with me at all times.  But, if you suffer from different allergy symptoms, such as skin redness or puffiness, watch this video clip for tips on how to take control of your allergy face and still look amazing:

What’s Beautiful?

The most subjective question known to man: What’s Beautiful? In order to redefine what society has forced down our throats as the stereotypical idea of what it means to be feminine, Under Armour has once again launched a campaign encouraging women to create their own definition of the female athlete.  The What’s Beautiful 3.0 campaign gives women a platform to establish personal fitness goals and hold themselves, and eachother, accountable for achieving them.  I have been a feminist since I can remember, and as a lover of fitness, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get involved.

Under Armour

I like to push myself to my limit.  Notice, I said MY limit.  Although I look to others for inspiration, I try not to compare myself because we all have different strengths and goals.  So for me, I decided to push myself to achieve something I’ve never done before.  My goal is two-fold: first, I want to be able to do a split.  Sounds juvenile, but it’s been something that I’ve NEVER been able to do.  I have the tightest hamstrings in the world, and I worry that my inflexibility might lead to injuries (like when I pulled a hammie a few weeks back).  My second goal: to get down to 14% body fat.  This one obviously goes hand in hand with doing bikini competitions.

So how do you define beauty?  And are you ready to join me and Under Armour to set new fitness goals? Let’s do this!

Mary Kay, Telenovela Style

Growing up I watched novelas (soap operas) religiously! For us, novela time was family time.  The drama, the death glares, the flawless makeup – NOTHING compares to the glamorous entertainment that is a telenovela.  In fact, one of my goals as an actress is to someday be in a novela * hint hint to you creators of fine Spanish language dramas that are reading this*.

As the official sponsor of Univison.com ‘s webnovela Arranque de PasionMary Kay sent me a  make-up set so that I could recreate one of the lead’s looks at home.  Ela, played by the lovely Kate del Castillo, is an edgy race car driver that sports a contoured yet natural look.

In a rare instance of perfect timing, it just so happened that I was invited to a taping of ‘The Talk’ along with some other influential bloggers, so I decided to put my new Mary Kay makeup to the test.

Here’s what I used to create the look:

  • Facial Highlighting Pen #3
  • Bronze Diva Coutouring Powder
  • Nourishine Plus Lip Gloss in Cafè au Lait
  • Chocolate Lip Liner
  • Beach Blonde Cream Eye Color
  • Lash Love Waterproof Mascara
  • Black liner to line my eyes and fill in my brows.

Arranque de Pasión, La Historia de Ela, will be airing 4/1/13 – 5/3/13 in 5 minute episodes released on Univision.com & UVideos every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.  For those of you not into watching things on the ‘net, the novela is scheduled to air in its entirety on Sunday, 5/5 @ 10pm EST on Univision!

This post is compensated and in collaboration with Latina Bloggers Connect and Mary Kay.  All thoughts and amazing makeup application skills are my own.

Tresemme Keratin Smooth

It’s always a challenge when I straighten out my hair.  My typical process takes 2 days for optimal results.  Day 1: wash and air dry in a braid or bun; Day 2: flat iron.  Whether or not my hair falls smoothly after I flat iron it is a crapshoot.  So this week when I did my hair I decided to try out a new line of products that I received at an event featuring celebrity hair stylist Marco Pena - Keratin Smooth by Tresemme.

I used two products for styling my hair, the Heat Protection Shine Spray and the Keratin Infusing Smoothing Serum.  The result? Well, see for yourself:

Throwback Thursday: 2009 . . . I was in a Music Video

You know what they say, there is a first time for everything folks.  A few years ago I was in a music video for (Lil’) Romeo’s group ‘College Boyzz’.  Yeah, Romeo, Master P’s son.  It was a fun day, Romeo and his dad Master P were both really nice and cool to work with.  But I had forgotten about it until my friend Crystal decided to revive the video by posting it to my Facebook page.  It was my first music video (and so far only . . . and probably last), and I was one of the lead chicks, and I remember being so nervous and being so out of my element that any rythm that I had just went out the window.  Ah memories! LOL.

Stay Fabulous with Covergirl

Makeup aficionados rejoice! I had the pleasure of attending a special presentation by Covergirl this weekend to announce the launch of their newest product: 3 in 1 Outlast Stay Fabulous foundation; a matte color line with primer and concealer built in.  We had the opportunity to test out the foundation along with a full range of Covergirl products in order to create our perfect look.

There was even a full tutorial on foundation application!  That being said, here are some tips I picked up on regarding applying your makeup:

  1. If using your hands: make sure they’re clean – be careful with oily/acne prone skin and streaks.
  2. Sponges: They’re more sanitary. Will give you a more sheer coverage.  It will soak up some of the product so you’ll have to keep them clean.
  3. Foundation Brush: Makes it easier to blend out the foundation.  Also easier to concentrate in areas where you need to conceal. Make sure you clean them after a few uses.
  4. Stippling Brush: Gives you an airbrush look.  Stippling your foundation helps give it a clean finish.

Celebrity makeup artist Luis Casco did the honors.

I have an interesting skin tone (that’s my way of saying that my face doesn’t match the rest of my body) so he taught me how to properly blend two colors for the best possible match and coverage.  I’m quite impressed with the foundation.  I don’t usually wear matte as I opt for a more sheer look, but this makeup was light-weight and easy to blend and most importantly, looked very natural.

Thanks for developing another awesome product Covergirl!  I’m adding the 3 in 1 Outlast Stay Fabulous to my list of things I love, along with your Lash Blast 24 Hour Mascara that I already wear on a daily basis!
